In fact, if you live in a place where the seasons change dramatically, you are probably putting away shorts and bathing suits and pulling out sweaters and winter coats. This is also a great time to go through your clothes and get rid of anything you didn’t wear or that is worn out.
Before you store away your summer clothes, go through them by category, i.e. tank tops, t-shirts, shorts, etc. Then decide what to keep by asking yourself:
- Does this still fit me and do I like the way it fits? If not, get rid of it. Even if you are losing weight or hoping to lose weight, the other clothes probably won’t be in style anymore, your body will probably not be the exact same shape, and most people want to buy new clothes when they lose weight.
- Do I like this piece of clothing? If not, why am I even keeping it? This is a great reason to get rid of things.
- Do I have another piece of clothing that is similar? If so, keep the one you like better and get rid of the other one.
- Did I wear this in the last year? If not, unless it is a special occasion dress or something you don’t need often, consider getting rid of it.
Now, with all of that said, don’t stress over these decisions. If it takes you more than about 5 seconds to decide whether or not to keep it, then keep it. Unless you get to the end and find you aren’t really getting rid of anything, keeping a few items because you just really like them is ok. It is all about balance.
